After graduating from the College of William and Mary in 2002, I moved to the Midwest to pursue Actuarial Science. I earned a Masters of Science in Applied Mathematics at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois. I started my career as a health insurance actuarial analyst. I passed three Society of Actuaries exams (P, FM, and M) then chose to continue my health data career as a SAS programmer.
A few years later, I left my career (and commute) to raise my three children. However, I have not been idle… I have
- learned some Python (including pandas and matplotlib)
- taken a few more math classes (a Multivariable Calculus refresher, Differential Equations, and Abstract Algebra)
- played with other people’s data
- complained about other people’s data
- invested $35 in a Raspberry Pi B+
- shoved my Windows laptop into the corner of my messy dining room and StackExchanged and Reddited my way to a functional Linux machine
